Hearing test for new-borns

The need to perform the hearing test in babies and the progress of the universal hearing screening were the main topics of the round table, organized in Tirana, with the participation of representatives of the medical staff from the 4 Regional Hospitals of Durrës, Fier, Elbasan, Korça and QSUT .

Prof. Dr. Eva Orzan, Head of the ENT Department at “Burlo Garofolo” Hospital in Trieste and Dr. Igor Caregnato presented the Italian experience and contemporary international recommendations on hearing screening programs for children.

Pediatrician Daniela Nika, Dr. Alketa Hoxha, Head of the Neonatology Service at “Koco Glozheni” Hospital in Tirana and Public Health expert Albana Ahmeti discussed with the participants how to refer cases of children with hearing difficulties to the Audiological Cabinet, near the Pediatric Hospital at QSUT, as well as future challenges related to the continuity of providing this service.
