“Gender Equality in the provision of Local Public Services” Financed by the European Union and the Kingdom of the Netherlands

About the project:

The purpose of this project is to create an evaluation platform to measure the provision of administrative services provided by local government institutions, looking at it from a gender perspective, in 7 cities of Albania.

The specific objectives of this project aimed at designing an evaluation scheme which will affect the improvement of local public services, periodically measuring the quality of services provided by municipalities. This is a good opportunity to create a tradition for promoting and evaluating the highest quality services. This project was implemented in 7 municipalities of the country, Gjirokastra, Vlora, Kavaja, Fier, Kruja, Shkodra and Elbasan, evaluating the performance of services provided at the local level, including the gender component.

We did not see the monitoring of local services related to gender equality, because when we talk about public services, we cannot fail to mention the gender component which includes:

• increasing the representation of women in decision-making at all levels of government;

• giving more economic power to women at urban and rural levels;

• ensuring that gender aspects are reflected in all policies;

• Improving mechanisms for promoting gender equality
